  1. Hiroshima Day is annually observed on 6 August in accordance with the remembrance of the victims of world’s first nuclear attack on Hiroshima, Japan in 1945, during World War II. 
  2. The Lokmanya Tilak National Award was granted to the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in Pune, Maharashtra, during a ceremony that commemorated the 103rd death anniversary of Lokmanya Tilak on 1 August, 2023.
  3. West Bengal Government has announced the setting up of a ‘Mangrove Cell’ in the state, on the occasion of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.
  4. England all-rounder Moeen Ali has confirmed his test cricket retirement after the end of the Ashes series and he will play in other formats of cricket. On the request of England Test captain Ben Stokes, he played the Ashes series but he retired from test cricket in September 2021.
  5. Counsellor Irshad Ahmad has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Syrian Arab Republic.
  6. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries has maintained its highest ranking among Indian corporates in the latest Fortune Global 500 list, jumping 16 places to rank at number 88.

  11. A new book titled ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’ written by veteran journalist Neerja Chowdhury has been released, which recalls the drama that led to Sonia’s announcement, prompted by Rahul’s “fear for his mother’s life”.
  12. The Patna High Court ordered to resume the caste based survey in Bihar, which was first started by Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar himself in Ward 10, Phulwarisharif, Patna.

The Assam Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing its forest cover and combating climate change by announcing a massive initiative called ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolan’ which aims to plant 1 crore saplings in a single day in September, marking a crucial milestone in the state’s efforts to boost its green economy and contribute to the fight against global warming.
  14. The Ministry of Railways and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the India 5G testbed at the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) in Secunderabad.
  15. Zoji La Tunnel, which is said to establish all-weather connectivity between the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to be completed by December 2030.
  16. Irish singer and musician Sinead O’Connor, who was known for her albums like ‘The Lion and the Cobra’, ‘I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got’, passed away at the age of 56.
